He was a pioneering drummer from Nigeria, releasing 17 albums in his lifetime. He is said to have introduced ‘world music’ to the western world. After gaining a scholarship to attend an American University – he encountered much racism. He and his friends challenged this despite the threat of prison for their efforts.
